Joe Biden and Donald Trump, central figures in American politics, are preparing for a direct confrontation in the next presidential debate scheduled for June 27th. Biden, currently president, confirmed his participation through a statement on the social network X on May 15, challenging Trump to do the same. Trump, in turn, was quick to accept the invitation, expressing through his social media platform, Truth Social, his willingness to debate Biden.

The two candidates, although they face separate legal challenges, are scheduled to meet before they even formally receive their respective parties’ nominations at national conventions. This will be a pivotal moment considering that Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a significant third candidate, has criticized his exclusion from the debate.

The discussion about cryptocurrencies has been a recurring topic among Republicans, especially between candidates Vivek Ramaswamy and Ron DeSantis. Both have addressed the relevance and implications of central bank digital currencies in their campaigns. Trump, previously critical of Bitcoin, describing it as a “hoax,” has recently adopted a more accepting tone, as seen at an event in early May where he claimed to be “fine with” cryptocurrencies in the US.

The last in-person interaction between Biden and Trump dates back to the September 2020 debate, where issues such as cryptocurrency and blockchain were not addressed. Currently, their campaign platforms do not clarify their positions on digital assets.

Rep. Wiley Nickel reflected on the importance of cryptocurrency-focused voters, highlighting the potential impact of their preferences on the 2024 election. As debates approach, uncertainty remains as to whether cryptocurrency will be a topic of discussion on June 27 or even the second debate scheduled for September 10th.
