The Open Network (TON), known for its expertise in smart contract execution, is about to take a significant step forward in terms of scalability.

In a strategic move, the TON development team announced the launch of the TON Applications Chain (TAC), a second-layer network based on Polygon technology.

This new initiative promises to bring greater efficiency and capacity to the network, preparing it for continued growth.

TON has gained prominence in recent years, especially after the integration of several dApps with the messaging app Telegram, which significantly increased the network’s visibility.

With over $700 million in deposits, according to DeFiLlama, the demand for scalability solutions has become inevitable. In order to avoid unwanted congestion, TAC emerges as a necessary answer.

TAC will be compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), allowing all dApps developed for Ethereum and associated networks such as Polygon, BNB Chain, Arbitrum, and Optimism to run on this new layer. This significantly expands the possibilities for integration and use of decentralized applications, providing a robust platform for developers and users.

“We decided to build on the Polygon ecosystem because of its EVM compatibility, seamless liquidity availability on EVM chains through AggLayer, full implementation support, and Polygon’s expertise in EVM. The vibrant community surrounding Polygon was also a crucial factor in our decision,” said Pavel Altukhov, founder of TAC.

Despite the big news, the price of the TON cryptocurrency did not experience any major immediate fluctuations. According to data from CoinMarketCap, the market value of TON has remained relatively stable over the past week.

The expectation, however, is that the implementation of TAC may bring future appreciation, as the benefits of scalability become evident.

It is not yet clear whether TAC will use the TON cryptocurrency to pay commissions or launch its own token. This decision will be crucial in defining the internal economy of the new network and its interaction with users.
